Energy Usage IQ — Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") form a legal agreement between you ("you", "user") and Core Tech Studios ("we", "us", "our") governing your use of the Energy Usage IQ mobile application and any related services (together, the "App"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. About the App

Energy Usage IQ is an informational tool that helps you estimate the energy consumption and running costs of household devices and appliances. All figures, tariffs, and savings shown are estimates for guidance only and are not a substitute for readings from your actual energy meter or bills from your supplier.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your country) to use the App. By using the App you confirm you meet this requirement.

3. Licence

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use, in accordance with these Terms and the Apple App Store / Google Play terms.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App, except where permitted by law.

  • Use the App for any unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent purpose.

  • Interfere with or disrupt the App, its servers, or networks.

  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the App or its content.

  • Submit feedback or content that is unlawful, abusive, defamatory, or infringes anyone's rights.

5. User-submitted content and feedback

If you submit feedback, suggestions, or device information through the App, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to use that content to operate and improve the App. Do not submit personal data about other people without their permission.

6. Estimates, tariffs, and accuracy

Energy costs depend on many factors we cannot fully verify, including your tariff, meter type, appliance condition, usage patterns, and regional pricing. We:

  • Do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any estimates, tariffs, or device data.

  • Are not your energy supplier and do not provide energy advice regulated by Ofgem or any other regulator.

  • Recommend you confirm figures with your supplier before making financial decisions.

7. Third-party services

The App may link to third-party websites or services (for example, your energy supplier, Apple, Google, or hosting providers). We are not responsible for their content, terms, or privacy practices. Your use of those services is at your own risk and subject to their terms.

We may earn a commission from certain links if you choose to use them.

8. Subscriptions and in-app purchases

If we introduce paid features, subscriptions, or in-app purchases, the following will apply:

  • Payment is processed by Apple or Google, not by us.

  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, in line with the relevant store's policy.

  • You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your App Store or Google Play account settings.

  • Refunds are handled under the applicable store's refund policy.

If no paid features are currently offered in the App, this section will apply only when they are introduced.

9. Updates and changes to the App

We may release updates, add or remove features, or discontinue parts of the App at any time. Some updates may be required to keep using the App.

10. Intellectual property

The App, including its code, design, branding, text, graphics, and the "Energy Usage IQ" and "Core Tech Studios" names and logos, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership rights to you.

11. Privacy

Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy at:

12. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful components.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the App.

  • Our total liability to you for all claims relating to the App is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the App in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) £20.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the App or your breach of these Terms.

15. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it from your device. We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the App. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (e.g. IP, disclaimers, liability, governing law) will continue to apply.

16. Apple-specific terms

If you use the App on an Apple device, you acknowledge:

  • These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.

  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.

  • In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.

  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the App, including product liability, legal/regulatory compliance, or consumer protection claims.

  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

17. Google Play-specific terms

If you obtained the App from Google Play, your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. In case of conflict between these Terms and Google Play's terms regarding distribution, Google Play's terms control to that extent.

18. Changes to these Terms

​We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

19. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings locally.
